The main objective of performing night maintenance is to provide the necessary work at minimal inconvenience to the driving public. Jobs were scheduled in advance and for the most part were located within the 494/694 "beltline" along high volume, major freeway corridors, wherever Appendix B (traffic control standards) require a double left or double right lane closure. Note: center lane only closures are no longer permitted. Some emergency jobs were also done by the night maintenance crews such as guardrail repairs and pavement "blowup" repairs.
