This construction manual succeeds the 1918 General Provisions and Road Specifications, and is followed by the 1929 Standard Specifications for Road Construction.
These pages contain images of forms filed with the Minnesota Highway Commission and Minnesota Highway Department between the years of 1917 and 1931. The forms were submitted to register the names, symbols and general location of auto trails. The trails were established to direct motorists along the best routes to popular destinations. The need for officially registered routes grew out of a tendency by some communities and businesses to create signed routes allegedly to a popular destination, but in fact, leading the motorist through a certain town or past a commercial establishment.
