Recommended Drift control measures for selected sites in Southern Minnesota

Description
This study consisted of field measurements and analysis of climatological data to determine the optimum solution for eliminating snow drifting problems at eighteen sites in southern Minnesota (Figure 1.1). The procedures followed were those described in the publication "Design Guidelines for the Control of Blowing and Drifting Snow," published by the Strategic Highway Research Program in 1994. The report includes a brief overview of the benefits to be derived from snowdrift control as these considerations might be useful in justifying the expense of the recommended mitigation measures. Excluding land acquisition costs, the benefit/cost ratio for permanent fences in the project area is estimated to be between 9:1 and 46:1, depending on the cost of mechanical snow removal.
